Steering Lock Housing






Steering Lock Housing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Angled hand drill

8.5 mm diameter drill

Removing

- Adjust steering wheel downward and to rear as far as possible, use entire adjustment range of steering column adjustment for this.

- Remove airbag unit.

- Remove steering wheel.

CAUTION!
Risk of damaging coil connector.

Coil connector with slip ring is not to be turned following removal.

- Remove steering column trim.

- Drill out shear bolts - arrows - with an angled hand drill and 8.5 mm diameter bit.





- Turn ignition key to on position.

- Disconnect induction coil wire on steering column switch.

- Remove steering column switch module from steering column.

- Remove steering column electronic systems control module (J527). Refer to => [ Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module ] Service and Repair.

- Release retaining clips - arrows - and remove steering lock housing - 2 - from mount - 1 -.





- Disconnect electrical connector on ignition switch.

To replace the steering lock housing, the ignition switch and lock cylinder and the ignition key removal lock safety switch (on vehicles with DSG transmission) must be removed.

- Remove ignition switch. Refer to=> [ Ignition Switch ] Ignition Switch.

- Remove lock cylinder. Refer to => [ Lock Cylinder ] Lock Cylinder.

- Remove the ignition switch key lock solenoid (N376). Refer to => [ Ignition Switch Key Lock Solenoid ] Service and Repair.

Installing





Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

- Tighten bolts - arrows - until heads shear off.

- Install steering column trim.

- Install steering wheel.

- Install airbag unit.
