Engine Accessory Drive Seal: Service and Repair






A/C Compressor Drive Shaft Seal, Replacing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Thrust Piece (T40192)

Seal Puller (T40195)

Procedure

Engine/transmission subassembly removed and mounted on the scissor lift platform (VAS 6131 A). Refer to => [ Engine/Transmission Subassembly, Lowering onto Scissor Lift Table ] Engine/Transmission Subassembly, Lowering Onto Scissor Lift Table.

- Remove the left exhaust manifold with catalytic converter. Refer to => [ Left Exhaust Manifold with Catalytic Converter ] Left Exhaust Manifold With Catalytic Converter.

- Remove air conditioner compressor.





- Remove the hose clamp on the A/C compressor drive dust cap - arrow -.





- Remove the dust cap and A/C compressor driveshaft from the end of the spur gear shaft for the A/C compressor drive.

- Rotate the spindle on the (T40195) all the way back.





- Lubricate the seal remover threaded head, position it, and then install it into the shaft seal as far as possible using strong force.

- Rotate the inner section of the seal puller against the spur gear unit the shaft seal is removed.

If the shaft seal breaks, position the seal puller a second time and remove the rest of the seal.

- Clamp the seal puller in a vise at the hex bolt and remove the shaft seal with pliers.

- Clean running and sealing surface.

- Install the A/C compressor drive shaft seal in as far as it will go using the (T40192).





Use a hose clamp appropriate for the model.

- Slide the dust cap - arrow - onto the end of the shaft for the A/C compressor drive spur gear with the hose clamp already installed and secure it.





- Install A/C compressor.

- Install the left exhaust manifold with catalytic converter. Refer to => [ Left Exhaust Manifold with Catalytic Converter ] Left Exhaust Manifold With Catalytic Converter.
