Torque Converter Shaft Seal

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Extractor lever (VW 681)

Thrust piece (T10137)

Rules of cleanliness for working on transmissions. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

General repair information. Refer to => [ General Repair Information ] General Repair Information.

Lightly coat the shaft seals with Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF). Other lubricating substances lead to functional problems in the hydraulic transmission control.

Procedure

- Remove the transmission, refer to one of the following:

For vehicles with a 6 cylinder 3.0L TFSI engine, refer to => [ Transmission, Removing ] Transmission, Removing.

For vehicles with a 6 cylinder 3.2L FSI engine, refer to => [ Transmission, Removing ] Transmission, Removing.

For vehicles with a 8 cylinder engine, refer to => [ Transmission, Removing ] Transmission, Removing.

- Attach the transmission to assembly stand. Refer to => [ Securing Transmission to Engine and Transmission Holder ] Securing Transmission to Engine and Transmission Holder.

- Carefully remove the torque converter.

- Remove the torque converter shaft seal with extractor lever (VW 681).





- Coat the outer circumference and sealing lips of the sealing ring with ATF.

Installation position: Open side of shaft seal faces transmission.

- Using thrust piece (T10137), drive in torque converter shaft seal until thrust piece is seated.
