Right Flange Shaft






Right Flange Shaft

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Oil collecting and extracting device (VAG 1782)

Removing

Transmission installed.

- Remove the rear noise insulation by loosening the fasteners - 2 - and, if equipped the - arrow -.





- Remove right drive axle from the transmission flange and tie up.

On vehicles which have a front exhaust pipe on the right side, the right drive axle must be removed.

- Place the used oil collection and extraction device (VAG 1782) under the transmission.

- Remove the flange shaft by placing a chisel or spacer piece - A - under the flange shaft and by turning bolt - B -.





If difficult to remove, rotate the flange shaft and install bolt into the opposite threaded hole for removal of the flange shaft.

- Replace the flange shaft circlip.





- Clamp the flange shaft in a vise, using jaw protectors. Press the circlip with new circlip - A - out of the flanged shaft groove.

Installing

Install in the reverse sequence; note the following points:

- Clean the flange shaft and shaft seal.

- A damaged sealing ring must be replaced. Refer to => [ Right Flange Shaft Seal ] Right Flange Shaft Seal.

- Fill the area between the sealing lip and the dust lip halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).

- Insert the flange shaft by hand into the splines of the differential until splines, lock properly into place.

- Press the flange shaft in by hand or with needle bearing drift (VW 295) until seated.

The circlip of the flange shaft must be engaged.

- Install the right drive axle to the flange shaft.

- Check the oil level in the front final drive. Refer to => [ Front Final Drive Gear Oil Level Checking ] Front Final Drive Gear Oil Level Checking.
