Left Flange Shaft

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Old oil collecting and extracting device (V.A.G 1782)

Removing

Proceed as follows:

Observe general repair notes, refer to => [ Repair Instructions ] Repair Instructions.

Observe cleanliness rules when working on transmissions. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

- Remove left front wheel.





- Remove noise insulation in center by loosening fasteners - 1 through 4 -.

- Remove left noise insulation - arrows -.





- Perform steps for removing left , drive axle - 1 - to wheel hub - 2 - connection must not be removed.





- Tie up left side of drive axle

- Place used oil collection and extraction device (V.A.G 1782) under transmission.

- Remove left flange shaft bolt by installing 2 bolts in flange and counter holding flange shaft with assembly lever.





- Remove flange shaft with spring, thrust washer and tapered ring.

Installing

Tightening specification, refer to => [ Flange Shafts and Shaft Seals Assembly Overview ] Description and Operation.

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

- Press flange shaft against spring force and tighten.

- Install left drive shaft.

- Tighten ball joint on control arm.

- Tighten coupling rod on stabilizer bar.

- Gear oil level, checking and topping off. Refer to => [ Gear Oil Level, Checking and Filling ] Gear Oil Level, Checking and Filling.
