Oil Pan Lower Section

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A)

Bracket with Spindle and Hook (10 - 222 A /10), qty. 2

Adapter (10 - 222 A /19)

Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

Engine Support Basic Set (T40091)

Engine Support Supplement Set (T40093)

Adapter (10 - 222 A /22)

Hand drill with plastic brush attachment

Protective eyewear

Sealant.

Removing

- Drain the coolant. Refer to => [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] Service and Repair.

- Pull rear engine cover off - arrows -.





- Pull front engine cover off - arrows -.





- Remove left and right air filter housing.

- Remove fan shroud. Refer to => [ Fan Shroud ] Fan Shroud.

- Remove engine bracket nuts at left and right - arrow -.





- Remove the bolts - arrows -.





- Remove front coolant pipe from engine and from coolant pump.

- Remove coolant line retaining clamp nuts and bolts - arrows -.





With connections removed, coolant lines can be moved aside slightly to position the (10 - 222 A /19) on the longitudinal members.

- Position (10 - 222 A) with (10 - 222 A /22) and (T40091/3) on bolted fender edges.





- Install additional (10 - 222 A) parts as shown in illustration. Position the (10 - 222 A /19) on the notches on the longitudinal members.





- Engage (10 - 222 A /10) in rear engine lifting eyes.

- Slide the (T40091/2) with both slides (T40093/5) into both (T40093/4).





- Install long spindles from (10 - 222 A) and engage hooks in front engine lifting eyes.

Secure (T40091/2) with pins and (T40093/4).

- Raise engine until engine supports are above threaded engine bracket pins and tension all spindles evenly to achieve even weight distribution.

- Remove ATF lines bolt - 2 - at right of transmission.





Ignore - 1 -.

- Remove ATF line - 1 - from transmission.





Ignore items - 2, 3 and 4 -.

- Remove bolt - arrow -.





- Leave ATF lines in installation location.

- Disconnect electrical connector - 2 - at oil level thermal sensor (G266).





- Place the used oil collecting and extracting device (V.A.G 1782) under the engine and drain the engine oil.

- Unbolt oil pan (lower section) - 1 - and pry out carefully.

To remove lower section of oil pan, pull ATF lines down slightly.

There is still a residual amount of oil in lower section of oil pan.

Installing





Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Lower Section of Oil Pan, Tightening Specifications
and Sequence ] Oil Pump and Lower Oil Pan Section Assembly Overview.

Replace seals and O-rings.

Risk of eye injury.

Wear safety glasses.

Risk of contaminating lubricating system and bearing.

Cover open parts of engine.

- Remove sealant residue from lower section and upper section of oil pan, for example with rotating plastic brush.

- Clean the sealing surfaces, they must be free of oil and grease.

Note the expiration date of the sealing compound.

- Cut tube nozzle at front marking (nozzle diameter approximately 2 mm).





The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.

Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.

- Apply a sealant bead - arrow - to the clean sealing surface of the lower section of the oil pan as illustrated.





Thickness of sealant bead: 2.5 mm.

Observe the position of the sealant bead at areas indicated with - arrows -.

The oil pan (lower section) must be installed within 5 minutes after application of sealant.

- Position lower section of oil pan and tighten bolts => [ Lower Section of Oil Pan, Tightening Specifications
and Sequence ] Oil Pump and Lower Oil Pan Section Assembly Overview.

The rest of the installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

- Install front coolant pipe. Refer to => [ Front Coolant Pipe ] Front Coolant Pipe.

- Tighten ATF lines.

- Install fan shroud. Refer to => [ Fan Shroud ] Fan Shroud.

- Fill the engine oil and check the oil level.

- Install left and right air filter housing.

- Fill with coolant => [ Filling ] Service and Repair.
