ATF Lines and Cooler, Cleaning

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Old oil collecting and extracting device (V.A.G 1782)

Safety glasses

If the ATF is dirty or a replacement transmission is being installed, blow through the ATF cooler and ATF lines with compressed air (max. 10 bar).

Wear eye protection.

- Thoroughly clean area surrounding connections at ATF line/transmission, ATF line/thermostat and ATF line/ATF cooler.

Place Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782) below.

- Remove bolt - 1 - and remove ATF lines from thermostat - 2 -.





- Remove front ATF lines to ATF cooler at ATF thermostat - 2 -. For this, counterhold at ATF thermostat.

- Remove and empty ATF cooler, flush with ATF if there is heavy contamination, replace if necessary => [ ATF Cooler ] Removal and Replacement.

- Remove bolt - 3 - and ATF lines from transmission.





- Place a hose on an ATF line for transmission/thermostat and secure it with a hose clamp. Place the other end of the hose into an appropriate container.

- Blow through ATF line with compressed air.

- Change hose over to other ATF line and repeat sequence.

- Install ATF cooler => [ ATF Cooler ] Removal and Replacement.

Because ATF lines from ATF thermostat to ATF cooler were opened, a "ventilation road test" must be performed after ATF check. Afterward, an ATF check must be performed again, see => [ ATF Level, Checking and Filling ] ATF Level, Checking and Filling

ATF coolant circuit can only bleed if ATF temperature is above 75°C and the thermostat to ATF cooler opens.
