Engine Oil Pressure: Testing and Inspection

Oil Pressure and Oil Pressure Switch, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Oil Pressure Gauge (V.A.G 1342) and Adapter (V.A.G 1342/14)

• Voltage Tester (V.A.G 1527B)

• Connector Test Set (V.A.G 1594C)

Procedure





• Oil level OK

• Engine oil temperature approximately 80° C (176° F).

- Remove oil pressure switch (F1). Refer to => [ Oil Pressure Switch ] Service and Repair.

- Install the (V.A.G 1342) and (V.A.G 1342/14) into the opening for the oil pressure switch.

- Install the oil pressure switch - 2 - into the (V.A.G 1342).

- Place the brown wire from the oil pressure gauge on the ground (negative).

Oil Pressure Switch, Checking

- Connect (V.A.G 1527B) using adapter cable from (V.A.G 1594C) to oil pressure switch and battery plus (positive).

• LED must not light up.

If LED lights up:

- Replace Oil Pressure Switch.

- Start engine.

• While starting engine, watch pressure tester and LED as oil pressure switch may open during start.

• The LED must illuminate at 1.2 to 1.6 bar.

If LED does not light up:

- Replace Oil Pressure Switch.

Oil Pressure, Checking

- Start engine.

• Oil pressure at idle: minimum 1.5 bar.

• Oil pressure at 2,000 RPM: minimum 3.5 bar.

Assembling

- Install oil pressure switch. Refer to => [ Oil Pressure Switch ] Service and Repair.
