VAS 5051, Connecting and Selecting Functions

Requirements

Fuses for engine electronics OK. Refer to

Battery voltage at least 12.7 V

Ground (GND) connections at engine and transmission OK.

Work sequence

- Switch ignition off.

- Connect (VAS 5051) with diagnostic wire (VAS 5051/1).





CAUTION!
For road tests, always secure tester (VAS 5051) to rear seat and have operated from there by a second technician.

A malfunction message appears on the display:

Display on (VAS 5051):





- Press "vehicle self-diagnosis" button.

Display on (VAS 5051):





The automatic test sequence is carried out by pressing "00 - Check Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory - Total system" in selection - 1 -, i.e. the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memories of all vehicle systems with self-diagnosis capability are checked.

Display on (VAS 5051):





Depending on which function is required => "Diagnostic functions " table, :

- Switch ignition on.

or

- Start engine.

- Select vehicle system "01 - Engine electronics" in selection - 1 -.

- Wait until next display appears.

1. Control module identification of the Engine Control Module (ECM)

2. Control module identification of the Immobilizer









- Press > button

1. Selection of diagnostic functions
