Front Final Drive Housing Cover Gasket
Removing
^ Remove front final drive housing cover bolts in reverse order of tightening sequence shown (start at -14-, finish at -1-).
^ Remove left-front and right-front exhaust pipes.
^ Remove heat shield.
CAUTION!
^ Remove the front final drive housing cover slowly and carefully. Otherwise, the front-wheel drive gears could fall out of the transmission.
^ If the front-wheel drive gears have fallen to the floor, they cannot be reinstalled. The transmission has to be replaced.
^ Remove front final drive housing cover.
Notes:
^ Do not remove the spur pinions for the front final drive. Secure the spur pinions so they will not fall out.
^ If the spur pinions for the front final drive have been removed, the gear identification must face outward (away from the transmission) when they are installed.
Installing
^ Make sure dowel sleeve (arrow -A-) is located properly.
^ Install gasket.
^ Install front final drive housing cover.
Tightening sequence:
^ 1st stage: tighten bolts -1-, -2- and -3- by hand.
^ 2nd stage: tighten bolts -1- through -14- to final torque in specified sequence.
Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.)
Note: When tightening the bolts by hand (1st stage), make sure that the gap between the cover and the transmission housing decreases uniformly all the way around the cover.
^ Change or top off ATF after repair.
