Shifter A/T: Service and Repair
1. Selector lever handle
- Press down sleeve -item 2-, pull out button on handle as far as the stop and pull handle up and out.
2. Sleeve
NOTE: The center console at the front must be removed for any further work on the selector mechanism, refer to Body and Frame
3. Cover
- With gear display and indicator for shift lock
- Release catches at mounting bracket for removing
- Lift out together with item -4- and item -5
4. Light guide
- With wiring harness and LEDs for background lighting
- Routing of wiring, refer to Fig. 4 below.
5. Guide
- With louver and mirror for individual gear display
- Remove by releasing the four catches from cover on inside
6. Securing spring For lock cable
- Clip into mounting bracket, refer to Starting and Charging
7. Lock cable
- Must not be kinked
- Removing, refer to Starting and Charging
- Installing and adjusting, refer to Starting and Charging
8. Lock washer
- For bolt, -item 9-
9. Bolt
- For Lever -item 10-
10. Lever For Lock Cable
11. Shift Lock Solenoid
- Removing and installing refer to Fig. 3 below.
- Unclip connector of wiring harness (at center console) Fig 3 below.
- Operational Check, refer to Testing and Inspection. Testing and Inspection
- Can be electrically tested, refer to Measureing Value Block, refer to Powertrain Management
12. Spring Clamp
- Install Both ends into selector lever
13. Detent Segment
- Install together with spring clamp into selector lever
14. Cover
- For Mounting bracket
- Removing and installing, refer to refer to Fig. 1 below.
15. Locking Clip
- For selector lever cable to selector lever
16. Locking Plate
- For selector lever cable to mounting bracket, refer to refer to Fig. 2 item E below.
17. Clip
- For selector lever cable to transmission selector lever
18. Hex Bolt
- Tighten to: 23 Nm (17 ft lb)
19. Hex Bolt
- Tighten to: 23 Nm (17 ft lb)
20. Mounting Plate
- For selector lever cable to transmission
21. Selector Lever Cable
- Removing and installing, refer to Replacement. Service and Repair
- Adjusting. Adjustments
NOTE: For all further work, the selector mechanism must be removed complete from the vehicle.
22. Nut
- 4 each
- Tighten to: 9 Nm (84 inch lbs)
23. Rubber Housing
- Needs to be separated from the mounting bracket -item 25- only if damaged or for removing the selector lever
- Installation position, refer to refer to Fig. 2 below.
24. Bearing Pin
- To remove, press out carefully with a screwdriver
25. Mounting Bracket
- Removing and installing, refer to refer to Fig. 2 below.
26. Selector Lever
27. Pull Rod
- Insert into selector lever with spring -item 28-
28. Spring
- For pull rod
29. Ignition/Starter Switch

- Press in direction of arrow -1- and release snap lock for mounting bracket.
- Installation:
Install cover into groove -D- and then engage snap lock.
Ensure that cover is properly seated and free of leaks.

- Remove bottom shield and catalytic converter.
- Separate selector lever cable from mounting bracket.
- Before installing, install rubber housing -A- onto mounting bracket.
- Tighten nut to: 9 Nm ( 84 inch lbs).
NOTE:
^ Rubber housing -A- must seal the mounting bracket to the body sealing lip -B-.
^ Ensure no wiring is routed between body and mounting bracket

- Unclip connector -D- (console wiring harness).
Turn solenoid about 90° in direction of arrow.
- After replacing solenoid, check selector mechanism, refer to Testing and Inspection. Testing and Inspection
Fig. 4 Routing Wiring For Background Lighting
- Route wiring for background lighting below guide and insert into notch -A- (on left and right).
- Clip connector -B- into bracket on guide.
- Clip in connector of wiring harness (console).
