Ignition Coil: Service and Repair






Ignition coil, replacing

Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Removal

Removing the engine covers
Remove the upper engine covers by pulling straight up.

Removal of ignition coils, cylinder 1, 3, 5 and 7 (bank 1)





Remove:
- the 4 connectors from the ignition coils
- the 4 screws of the ignition coils
- the 4 ignition coils of the cylinders.

Removal of ignition coils, cylinder 2, 4, 6 and 8 (bank 2)





Remove:
- the 2 screws of the cable harness
- the retaining screw of the upper engine cover.
Carefully bend aside the cable harness.

Remove:
- the 4 connectors from the ignition coils
- the 4 screws of the ignition coils
- the 4 ignition coils of the cylinders.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see: Tightening torque, B8444S Tightening Torque.

Installation of ignition coils, cylinder 1, 3, 5 and 7 (bank 1)





Install:
- the 4 ignition coils of the cylinders
- the 4 screws of the ignition coils; tighten
- the 4 connectors to the ignition coils.

Installation of ignition coils, cylinder 2, 4, 6 and 8 (bank 2)





Install:
- the 4 ignition coils of the cylinders
- the 4 screws of the ignition coils
- the 4 connectors to the ignition coils
- the 2 screws of the cable harness
- the retaining screw of the upper engine cover.

Installing the engine covers
Install the engine covers over the front and rear cylinder bank.
