Fault-Tracing

Fault tracing TCM-P089709

Checking the oil temperature

- Ignition on
- Read the oil temperature for the transmission control module (TCM).
Check that oil temperature is within the permitted range. Compare with the temperature of the automatic transmission.

Note! The transmission temperature sensor is located inside the control system and may be affected by the heat given off by the solenoids.

Oil Temperature Sensor:

Is the temperature OK?

Yes - Checking the wiring and component

No - Checking the wiring and component

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the wiring and component
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has probably been caused by the transmission being put under very high load and high ambient temperature. It is important that the oil is replaced and that the transmission function is tested.

Hint: If no fault is found check the oil temperature sensor. See: Checking internal components of the transmission Checking Internal Components of the Transmission

Resetting the counter for Transmission oil, change

Resetting the counter for Transmission oil, change

Hint: The transmission control module (TCM) has a counter for the oil's quality that counts up when the transmission is exposed to very heavy loads or high ambient temperature. If the counter is not reset when draining/changing oil, there is a risk that a diagnostic trouble code may be generated under incorrect conditions. That is why it is important that the counter for Transmission oil, change is reset.

Note! This only applies when the transmission oil is changed and when the oil is changed during repairs to the transmission's temperature sensor.

- Ignition on
Activate reset of the counter by clicking on the symbol for VCT2000.

Fault-tracing information
Cancel the fault tracing in progress. Add the mechanical symptoms to the symptom list and fault trace the symptoms.

Continue - DONE

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the wiring and component
- Open the gearbox control system
Check the signal cable between the oil temperature sensor in the transmission and transmission control module (TCM) terminal #B8 (#B8). Check for a short circuit to ground.
Remedy as necessary

Verification

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on
- Start the engine and allow it to idle.
- Read the oil temperature for the transmission control module (TCM).
Check that oil temperature is within the permitted range. Compare with the external temperature of the transmission.

Note! The transmission temperature sensor is located inside the control system and may be affected by the heat given off by the solenoids.

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
