Fault-Tracing

Fault tracing

Checking the status

- Start the engine.
Read the diagnostic status and fault status for the diagnostic trouble code by selecting the diagnostic trouble code in the list.
Check whether the fault is permanent or intermittent. Read off the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) fault status when the diagnostic status is "Completed".
The fault is permanent if the fault status is "Fault found". If the fault status is "No fault found" the fault is intermittent and not presently active.

Note! The fault status cannot change from "Fault found" to "No fault found" in the same operating cycle.

Continue - Checking components and wiring

Checking components and wiring

Hint: Bank 1 (cylinder row nearest the front): cylinders 1, 3, 5 and 7. Bank 2 (cylinder row furthest to the rear, nearest the passenger compartment): cylinders 2, 4, 6, and 8.

- Ignition off
Check the fuse for the circuit. If the fuse is blown, check the cable. Check for a short-circuit to ground.
Check the connector for relevant camshaft reset valve. Check for contact resistance and oxidation.
Check the resistance of the reset valve.
Disconnect the engine control module (ECM).
Check the signal cable for the relevant camshaft reset valve. Check for a short-circuit to ground.
Measure between:
- Control module #A91 (#B31) and reset valve camshaft #2, exhaust (bank 1).
- Control module #A90 (#B30) and reset valve camshaft #2, exhaust (bank 2).
Check the voltage supply cable for the relevant camshaft reset valve. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Measure between:
- System relay and reset valve camshaft #1, exhaust (bank 1).
- System relay and reset valve camshaft #1, exhaust (bank 2).
Remedy as necessary.

Continue - Verification

Verification

Verification

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off
- Reconnect the connectors, components, etc.
- Start the engine.
- Test drive the car on the road in different driving conditions with high and low loads so that the engine control module (ECM) can carry out diagnostics.
- Connect VCT2000 to the data link connectorwithout switching off the engine.
- Read the diagnostic status and fault status for the diagnostic trouble code by selecting the diagnostic trouble code in the list.

Note! If the engine is switched off, the stored fault status will be erased and the test drive will have to be repeated.

Check the fault status for the diagnostic trouble code when the scan is "Implemented". When the function is correct the fault status should be "No fault found" when the scan is implemented.

Is the function OK?

Yes - Troubleshooting procedure complete

No - Fault-tracing information

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit Fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test
