Condition
The control modules transmit and receive information via a standardized serial communication method - CAN (Control Area Network). If engine control module (ECM) registers a communication malfunction between central electronic module (CEM) and engine control module (ECM), the diagnostic trouble code is stored in engine control module (ECM).

- Open circuit on one of the CAN-cables.
- Short-circuit between the control area network (CAN) wiring.
