Checking Components And Wiring
HINT: Bank 1 (cylinder row nearest the front): cylinders 1, 3, 5 and 7. Bank 2 (cylinder row furthest to the rear, nearest the passenger compartment): cylinders 2, 4, 6 and 8.
- Ignition off
Check the camshaft position sensor connector with regard to contact resistance and oxidation.
Check that the camshaft position sensor is correctly installed. Check the mounting and position of the camshaft position sensor.
Disconnect the engine control module (ECM).
Check the signal cable between the engine control module (ECM) and the connector for relevant camshaft position sensor. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to ground. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage. Check for an intermittent open-circuit.
Measure between:
- Control module terminal #A33 (#A33) and camshaft position sensor terminal #3 inlet, bank 1 (ECM-P034100).
- Control module #A34 (#A34) and camshaft position sensor #3 inlet, bank 2 (ECM-P034600).
- Control module terminal #A31 (#A31) and camshaft position sensor terminal #3 exhaust, bank 1 (ECM-P036600).
- Control module terminal #A32 (#A32) and camshaft position sensor terminal #3 exhaust, bank 2 (ECM-P039100).
Check the supply cable between the control module and the connector for relevant camshaft position sensor. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to ground. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage. Check for an intermittent open-circuit.
Measure between:
- Control module terminal #A72 (#B12) and camshaft position sensor terminal #1.
Check the ground lead between the control module and the connector for relevant camshaft position sensor. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to ground. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage. Check for an intermittent open-circuit.
Measure between:
- Control module terminal #A07 (#A7) and camshaft position sensor terminal #2.
Remedy as necessary.
