Verification, Part 1

Verification, Part 1

HINT: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied. In order to verify this diagnostic trouble code (DTC), adaptation of the camshaft must be completed. Adaptation of the camshaft is carried out by the engine control module (ECM) when the engine is at operating temperature, during engine braking (fuel shut-off) above 1500 rpm for at least 10 seconds.

CAUTION: Test driving on the road must be carried out on a road with minimal traffic. Follow the highway code.

- Ignition off
- Reconnect the connectors, components, etc.
- Start and run the engine to operating temperature.
- Drive the vehicle on the road. Ensure that the conditions for camshaft adaptation are met: engine braking (fuel shut-off) above 1500 rpm for at least 10 seconds. The conditions can be satisfied for example by driving the vehicle with a high engine load (accelerating) up to approximately 90 km/h and then releasing the accelerator pedal for 10 seconds.

NOTE: In order for the adaptation to be carried out, the accelerator pedal must not be touched during engine braking.

- Repeat the schedule to ensure that the diagnosis and adaptation are carried out.
- Connect VCT2000 to the data link connector without switching off the engine.
- Read the diagnostic status and fault status for the diagnostic trouble code by selecting the diagnostic trouble code in the list.

NOTE: If the engine is switched off, the stored fault status will be erased and the test drive will have to be repeated.

Check that the diagnostic status for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is "Completed". When the diagnostic status for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is "Completed", the engine control module (ECM) has carried out camshaft adaption. If the status is "Not completed" the test drive must be carried out again.

If the function is correct, the fault status must be "No fault found" when the diagnostic is complete.

Check that the value for camshaft adaption is correct when the diagnostic status for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is "Completed".

- Inlet camshaft: 75 degrees CA (camshaft angle) (±8 degrees CA)
- Exhaust camshaft: 120 degrees CA (±8 degrees CA)

Is the function OK?

YES: Refer to Verification, Part 2. Verification, Part 2
NO: Refer to Fault-Tracing Information - Permanent Fault.
