Checking The Status

HINT: The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) specifies the relevant camshaft.

- ECM-P001600: Camshaft inlet, bank 1.
- ECM-P001700: Camshaft exhaust, bank 1.
- ECM-P001800: Camshaft inlet, bank 2.
- ECM-P001900: Camshaft exhaust, bank 2.

- Bank 1 (cylinder row nearest the front): cylinders 1, 3, 5 and 7.
- Bank 2 (cylinder row furthest to the rear, nearest the passenger compartment): cylinders 2, 4, 6 and 8.

- Start the engine.
- Read off the adaption for the camshaft, the camshaft shift angle and desired value for the camshaft shift angle.

Check that the read off values correspond to the guide values below. The difference between the camshaft shift angle and desired value for camshaft shift angle can be read off from the lower digital display. Note the read off values as a basis for continuing fault-tracing.

Adaption Camshaft
- Inlet camshaft: 75 degrees CA (camshaft angle) (±8 degrees CA)
- Exhaust camshaft: 120 degrees CA (±8 degrees CA)

Camshaft Shift Angle
- The difference from the desired value of the camshaft shift angle (inlet and exhaust): approximately 8 degrees CA

The fault is permanent if the values are not correct. If the values are correct, this indicates that the fault is intermittent and not presently active.
