Checking Components
Checking Components
NOTE: If the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for correlation between the crankshaft position and camshaft position is stored, it must be fault-traced first.
HINT: Incorrect oil grade can cause malfunctions in the variable valve timing (VVT) unit. Contaminants in the engine oil can cause damage to components in the variable valve timing (VVT) unit.
Check the engine oil grade. Check especially for contaminants.
Remove the camshaft reset valve, check the reset valve and the oil ducts in the cylinder head. Check for contaminants and blockages.
Check the engine oil pressure.
Try a new camshaft reset valve if no fault is found or if the above remedies do not rectify the fault.
HINT: The fault can also be caused by an internal fault in the variable valve timing (VVT) unit. If the above fault-tracing/remedies do not rectify the fault, the variable valve timing (VVT) unit may be damaged.
Remedy as necessary.
