Fault-Tracing

Fault tracing

Checking the power supply

Note! The Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) is located in the Steering Wheel Module (SWM) from which it is supplied with power.

- Ignition on
- Read the supply voltage values for the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) and the Central Electronic Module (CEM).
The supply voltage values for the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) and the Central Electronic Module should be approximately the same.
If the two voltages differ by more than 2.0 V then this would suggest that the fault is permanent.
If the voltages are approximately the same then this would suggest that the fault is intermittent, i.e. that the fault has previously been present but is no longer active.

Continue - Checking leads and connectors

-------------------------------------------------

Checking leads and connectors
Check the connector to the Steering Wheel Module (SWM) for connector resistance and oxidation.
Check the power supply lead (15i supply) between the Steering Wheel Module (SWM) #A8 (#8) and the fuse in the luggage compartment relay/fuse centre with respect to contact resistance and oxidation. For information on the cable routing, see the applicable circuit diagram.

Hint: With ignition the voltmeter should display the battery voltage.

Check the ground lead between the ground terminal and the Steering Wheel Module (SWM) #A2 (#2) with respect to resistance and oxidation. For information on the cable routing, see the applicable circuit diagram.
Remedy as necessary.

Other information
- Connecting the breakout box, B8444S, B6324S Connecting the Breakout Box, Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Module (SAS)
- Checking wiring and terminals Checking Wiring and Terminals
- The Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) is integrated in the Steering Wheel Module (SWM). When replacing the control module, see Steering wheel module (SWM), replacing Steering Wheel Module (SWM), Replacing.

Continue - Verification

Verification

Verification

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off
- Reconnect the connectors, components, etc.
- Ignition on
- Read the supply voltage values for the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) and the Central Electronic Module (CEM).
Check that the voltage is approximately the same as the battery voltage.

Is the voltage OK?

Yes - Troubleshooting procedure complete

No - Fault-tracing information

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit Fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test
