Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Information
ECM-P157200 Brake Pedal Switch Circuit
Condition
The engine control module (ECM) checks the signal from the brake light contact by comparing it with the brake pedal position. The brake control module (BCM) transmits information on brake pedal position to the engine control module (ECM) via the CAN network.
The diagnostic trouble code is generated if the engine control module registers that the signal from the brake light contact indicates that the brake pedal is not depressed while the signal from the brake pedal position sensor indicates that the pedal is depressed.
The diagnostic trouble code can be diagnosed when the ignition is on and the brake pedal is depressed.
Substitute Value
- Cruise control turned off when fault is active.
Possible Source
- Contact resistance or oxidation in brake light contact connections.
- Contact resistance or oxidation in brake pedal position sensor connections.
- Open-circuit or short-circuit to ground on brake light contact cables.
- Damaged brake light contact.
- Damaged brake position sensor.
Fault Symptom[s]
- Cruise control does not function at all.
