Removing the tailgate assembly
If necessary replace the components according to Tailgate components Tailgate Components.
Remove:
- the C-post panel according to C-post panel C-Post Panel
- the D-post panel according to D-post panel D-Post Panel
- the two clips (A)
- the clamp (B) by turning it a 1/4 turn
- the mounting (C) for the cargo net (if applicable).
Note! Carefully lower the headlining so that the headlining is not damaged.
Note! Mark the position of the hinge using a pencil before removing the tailgate.
Disconnect the two connectors.
Pull the rubber boot off the bodywork. Pull through the cable harness.
Disconnect the water hose by removing the cover for the high level stop lamp.
Remove the hose from the nozzle. Pull out the grommet and hose.
Note! Two people are required to remove the tailgate.
Remove the screws from the hinge.
Lift the catch for the gas strut. Pull the gas strut from the ball joint.
Carefully remove the tailgate.
Installing the tailgate assembly
Install the tailgate and the screw.
Align the hinge against the old markings.
Tighten the screw by hand.
Lubricate the ball joints. Press the gas struts and retaining clip into place. Check that the gas strut is locked.
Install:
- the water hose and grommet
- the cover for the high level stop lamps.
Route the cable harness through the bodywork. Install the rubber boot.
If necessary, install the components for the tailgate according to Tailgate components Tailgate Components.
Carefully close the tailgate. Check the alignment.
Tighten the screws. Tighten to 21 Nm.
If necessary, adjust the tailgate according to Adjusting the tailgate Adjustments.
Install:
- the headlining
- the clamp (B)
- the two clips (A)
- the mounting (C) for the cargo net (if applicable)
- the C-post panel according to C-post panel C-Post Panel
- the D-post panel according to D-post panel D-Post Panel.
