Faulty Signal

Faulty signal

Status check
- Start the engine and allow it to idle or drive the car until it has reached operating temperature.
Check whether the engine coolant temperature (ECT) gauge is displaying a value outside its permitted range.

Does the engine coolant temperature (ECT) gauge display a value outside its permitted range?

Yes - Replacing the component

No - Information

-------------------------------------------------

Replacing the component
Read off the engine coolant temperature (ECT) from the engine control module (ECM). The fault is probably in the combined instrument panel if the engine control module (ECM) has registered an engine coolant temperature (ECT) within its permitted range. Replace the combined instrument panel.
The fault is probably in the engine management system if the engine control module (ECM) has registered an engine coolant temperature (ECT) outside its permitted range. Search for the fault cause in this system.
Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To access and replace the combined instrument panel, see Driver information module, removing/installing Removal and Replacement
- For information about signals, see Signal specification Signal Specification, Driver Information Module (DIM).

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off.
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Start the engine and allow it to idle or drive the car until it has reached operating temperature.
Check the engine coolant temperature (ECT) and compare with the engine coolant temperature (ECT) gauge reading in the combined instrument panel. At approximately 80°C the needle is midway between Min and Max.

Does the engine coolant temperature (ECT) gauge display a value within its permitted range?

Fault-tracing information

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test

------------------------

Attempt New Test - Replacing the component

-------------------------------------------------

Information
The combined instrument panel has previously registered a fault in the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor signal from the engine control module (ECM), but registers that the fault no longer exists.

Fault-tracing information
If the fault is intermittent, do not verify fault-tracing if the fault does not recur.
It is possible to view the information again, or leave fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
