Removal and Replacement






Shift cable, replacing

Removal

Removing battery and air cleaner




Park the car on a flat surface. Do not apply the parking brake.

Remove:
- air cleaner housing, see Replacing the air cleaner (ACL) Service and Repair
- the battery shelf.

Removing the shift cable





Remove:
- the lock clip from the lever (A)
- the cable from the clip on the connector bracket (B)
- the cable bracket and cable from the lever (C)
- the heat deflector plate on the firewall (3 nuts) (D).

Removing passenger compartment components
Removing the center console; see Rear center console Rear Center Console.

Detaching the gear selector assembly




- Disconnect the shift cable from the gear selector assembly.
- Pull out the cable shaft with a pliers.
- Unsnap the cable casing from the gear selector assembly using a screwdriver.
- Remove the cable.

Removing the shift cable




- Detach the frame of the rubber grommet in the firewall (2 nuts).
- Remove the cable by pulling it inwards into the passenger compartment.

Note! An additional mechanic is required to guide the cable and bracket through the engine compartment.

Installation

Installing the shift cable




Carefully guide the cable from the passenger compartment into the engine compartment.

Note! An additional mechanic is required to receive and guide the cable and bracket through the engine compartment.

Caution! Be careful not to damage the cable or its casing by sharp bends. Take care with the cable boot.

Install:
- the cable casing in the gear selector assembly by pressing it into place
- the cable to the shift lever with the shaft.
Fit the frame over the rubber grommet in the firewall (2 nuts). Torque: 25 Nm.

Finishing

Adjusting shift cables, installing engine compartment components




Adjust the shift cable as described in Adjusting the mechanical cable for the transmission, AW55-50/51SN Adjustments.

Install:
- the heat deflector plate (3 screws)
- the battery shelf
- air cleaner housing, see Replacing the air cleaner (ACL) Service and Repair
- the battery Note when disconnecting and connecting the battery lead Battery Disconnecting. Connect the cables.

Checking the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
Check and clear any diagnostic trouble codes.
