Connecting the breakout box

Special tools:

Connecting the breakout box




- Ignition off
- Remove the combined instrument panel. See Driver information module, removing/installing Removal and Replacement.
On the combined instrument panel connectors check that:
- The male and female terminals are undamaged and properly attached (cannot be pressed in)
- The wiring for the female terminals is securely connected
- In particular check those terminals that are relevant to the stored diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or symptom. See Signal specification Signal Specification, Driver Information Module (DIM)





22-pin connector A
Connect adapter 951 1463 Adapter 22-16-14 pin 951 1463 Adapter 22-16-14 Pin to the control module connectors. Connect breakout box 951 1428 Breakout box 951 1428 Breakout Box to the adapter.





30-pin connector B
Connect adapter 981 3194 Replaced by 9511495 981 3194 Replaced by 951 1495 to the control module connector. Connect breakout box 951 1428 Breakout box 951 1428 Breakout Box to the adapter.
Disconnect the breakout box in reverse order.

Hint: Control module terminals #A1-#A22 correspond to terminals #31-#52 on the breakout box. Terminals #B1-#B30 correspond to terminals #1-#30 on the breakout box.

The breakout box is designed to facilitate reading off the control module input and output signals when the control module is connected; and the cable and component resistance when the control module is disconnected. The use of a breakout box reduces the risk of accidental short-circuits and damage to the connector pins.
