Checking The Sun Sensor, ECC

Checking the sun sensor, ECC

Checking the sun sensor signal

- Ignition on
- Go into scrolling values
- Read off the sun sensor signal.
Mask the sun sensor. Read the value. Remove the masking. Aim a strong light source (for example a strong flashlight) at close range at the sun sensor.

Note! The value from the sun sensor is updated slowly, so keep the masking / light source in place for approximately 20 seconds.

Check that the value changes.

Does the value of the sun sensor change?

Yes - No Fault Found

No - Checking cables

-------------------------------------------------

Checking cables
Check the sun sensor and climate control module connector B (16-pin). Check for contact resistance and oxidation.
Check the ground lead between climate control module terminal #B8 and sun sensor terminal #1. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Check the signal cable between climate control module terminal #B7 and sun sensor terminal #5. Check for an open-circuit. Check for an short-circuit to ground. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
If the wiring is OK, try a new sun sensor.
Remedy as necessary
