Checking the signal from the hood switch
- Ignition on.
Read off the hood switch status.
Open and close the hood.
The value should be HIGH when the hood is open and LOW when the hood is closed.
Are these readings OK?
Yes - No Fault Found
No - Checking the hood switch and wiring

- Ignition on.
Check the hood switch connector for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check the cable between VGLA control module #A3 (A3) and hood switch #1 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault , and a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Check the cable between hood switch #2 and ground for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Try a new hood switch if no fault is found.

Hint: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied as follows:
- Ignition off.
- Reconnect the connectors, reinstall components etc.
- Ignition on.
Read off the hood switch status.
Open and close the hood.
The value should be HIGH when the hood is open and LOW when the hood is closed.
