Checking the function of the Winter (W) mode selector




- Ignition on
- Click on the VCT2000 symbol to read off the mode selector status.
The status must be OFF with the button unaffected and change to ON when the button is pressed.





Are the correct values displayed?

Yes - Intermittent fault

No - Checking the wiring and component

- Ignition off
- Remove the Winter (W) mode selector from the center console. See Replacing the panel with integrated winter mode switch, AW55-50/51SN Replacing The Panel With Integrated Winter Mode Switch.
Check that the winter (W) mode selector button does not stick in the depressed position.
Shake the mode selector. Check there are no loose components in the switch.
Connect an ohmmeter between terminal #2 and #3. The ohmmeter must show infinite resistance with the W-button disconnected and approximately 0 ohms with the W-button depressed.
Check the cable between the mode selector connector terminal #2 and transmission control module (TCM) terminal #37. Check for a short-circuit to ground.

Hint: After repairs have been completed, they must be verified as follows to ensure that the fault has been eliminated:








- Ignition off
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on
- Click on the VCT2000 symbol to read off the mode selector status.

The status must be OFF with the button unaffected and change to ON when the button is pressed.

Check that the W mode selector button does not stick in the depressed position.
Check the cable between the mode selector connector terminal #2 and transmission control module (TCM) terminal #37. Check for a an intermittent short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
