Removing components
Remove:
- the roof trim according to Roof trim
- the parcel shelf according to Parcel shelf, 4-door cars Service and Repair
Detach the top edge of the C post panel to access the cable harness for the heated rear windshield.
Disconnect the connector for the heated rear windshield.
Tape around the rear windshield to protect the paint.
Remove the weatherstrip at the upper edge of the windshield.
Removing the rear windshield
Insert wire 115 9785 PIANO WIRE 0.5 MM 115 9785 Piano Wire 0.5 mm through the PUR adhesive from the inside outwards.
Use round-nosed pliers to pull the wire through from the outside.
Secure the wire in the handle 115 9784 PULLER HANDLE 115 9784 Puller Handle on the outside and in counterhold 115 9783 COUNTERHOLD CHISEL 115 9783 Counterhold Chisel on the inside of the car.
Start in the top corner and cut downwards.
At the corners, work in the opposite direction where approximately 1/4 is left.
"Saw" around the corners.
Ensure that the wire does not catch on the heated rear windshield terminal pins.
Keep the wire tensioned the whole time.
Pull the counterhold along the lower edge.
Ensure that the wire is free of the metal clips for the parcel shelf.
Keep the counterhold pressed against the PUR adhesive at all times.
Apply suction pads 998 6030 998 6030 to the windshield. Lift the windshield out.
Leave the remaining PUR adhesive residue on the body flange.
A layer of approximately 1 mm can be left on the car body.
If the window is to be reused:
Scrape the old PUR adhesive off the glass. Use a chisel.
A layer of approximately 1 mm can be left on the windshield.
