Replacing the hinges for the tailgate

Removing hinges





Note! Mark the position of the hinge using a pencil before removing the hinge.

Support the tailgate in the open position.
Lift up the lock unit for the gas strut on the hinge side. Pull the gas strut off the ball joint.
Remove the screws for the hinge. Carefully remove the hinge.

Installing hinges

Note! When replacing, spray paint the hinge using the correct color before installation.

Install the hinge according to the markings. Finger tighten the screws.
Lubricate the ball joint. Press the gas strut into place. Check that the gas strut is secure.
Carefully close the tailgate. Check the alignment.
Tighten the screws. Tighten to 21 Nm.
If necessary, adjust the tailgate according to Adjusting the tailgate Adjustments.

Replacing gas struts




Open the tailgate. Support the tailgate.
Lift up the lock unit for the gas strut on the both sides. Pull the gas strut off the ball joint.
Lubricate the ball joint. Press the gas struts into place. Check that the gas strut is secure.

Note! When replacing gas struts, drain the gas from the old strut.

Drill a 4 mm hole as illustrated.

Warning! Use protective goggles when drilling.
