Tailgate

Removing the tailgate assembly




If necessary replace the components according to Tailgate components Trunk Lid Components.
Disconnect the connector for the tail lamp.
Pull the cable harness up through the rear fender.
Lift up the lock for the gas strut. Pull the gas strut from the ball joint.
Remove the screws which secure the hinge to the trunk lid. Remove the trunk lid.

Installing the tailgate assembly
Install the tailgate. Finger tighten the screws.
Lubricate the ball joints. Press the gas struts and retaining clip into place. Check that the gas strut is locked.
Use a piece of string to feed the cable harness in.
Connect the connectors for the tail lamp.
If necessary, install the components for the tailgate according to Tailgate components Trunk Lid Components.
Carefully close the tailgate. Check the alignment.
Tighten the screws. Tighten to 21 Nm.
If necessary, adjust the tailgate according to Adjusting the tailgate Adjustments.
