Checking the component








- Ignition off
- Disconnect the battery negative lead
- Disconnect the SIPS bag connector under the seat
- Connect the special tool to the SIPS airbag's connector: 861 8437 SRS adapter C70 ,S70,V70 861 8437 SRS Adapter
- Ignition on
- Connect the battery negative lead.

Warning! There must not be anyone inside the passenger compartment when the battery is connected.

Warning! Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected, non-deployed, pyrotechnical airbag. This could deploy the airbag.

Note! The special tool must be checked and fault-free. If the tool is defective, the diagnosis readings will be incorrect. This will make fault-tracing harder.

Read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
If the status of the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) changes from permanent fault to intermittent fault, try replacing the SIPS airbag according to SIPS airbag SIPS Airbag.

- Ignition off
- Disconnect special tool 861 8437 SRS adapter C70 ,S70,V70 861 8437 SRS Adapter from the connector for the SIPS bag.
Measure the resistance between the SRS control module:
- terminal #35 (#10) and SIPS bag terminal #2 (under the seat)
- terminal #36 (#11) and SIPS bag terminal #1 (under the seat).
check for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
There is an open-circuit if the resistance is greater than 0 ohms.
Remedy as necessary.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.




- Ignition off
- Disconnect the battery negative lead
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on
- Connect the battery negative lead.

Warning! There must not be anyone inside the passenger compartment when the battery is connected.

- Read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
The fault is no longer present if the status of the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has changed to intermittent.
