Permanent fault, signal too high
Checking the signal cable
- Ignition off
- Disconnect the combined instrument panel connector
- Ignition on.
Connect a voltmeter between the combined instrument panel connector terminal #B23 (control module side) and ground.
The voltmeter should read 5 V.
OK - Checking the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
Not OK - Checking the signal cable

Checking the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
- Disconnect the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) from the combined instrument panel according to Replacing bulbs in the combined instrument panel Removal and Replacement.
Take an Ohm reading from the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL).
The ohmmeter should read 10-15 ohms.
OK - Defective combined instrument panel
Not OK - Defective malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)

Defective combined instrument panel
Try a new combined instrument panel according to Driver information module (DIM), installation/removal, component replacement Removal and Replacement.
Continue - Verification

Replace the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) according to Replacing bulbs in the combined instrument panel Removal and Replacement.

Checking the signal cable
Check the cable between engine control module (ECM) terminal #34 and the combined instrument panel connector terminal #B23. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Remedy as necessary.

- Ignition off
- Reconnect the connectors, reinstall components etc.
- Connect VCT2000
- Ignition on.
Activate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL).
Does the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) function correctly?
Yes - FAULT FOUND
No - No Fault Found Fault-tracing information
