Checking function air distribution damper motor
- Ignition on
- Start the blower fan
- Read off the damper motor position sensor
- Activate the damper motor by turning the control for air distribution to its different positions.
Check that position sensor values change when the control is turned. If the value changes this indicates that damper motor is OK.
Does the position sensor value change?
Yes - Intermittent fault
No - Checking connectors
-------------------------------------------------
Checking connectors
- Ignition off
- Check the connector for the damper motor and control module connector A (30-pin). Check for contact resistance and oxidation. Remedy if necessary. Check for damage carefully
- Reinstall the components, reconnect the connectors etc.
- Ignition on
- Start the blower fan
- Read off the damper motor position sensor
- Activate the damper motor by turning the control for air distribution to its different positions.
Check that position sensor values change when the control is turned. The cause of the fault was loose connections in the connector if the value changes.

Does the position sensor value change?
Yes - FAULT FOUND
No - Checking components and wiring
-------------------------------------------------
Intermittent fault
Fault-tracing indicates that the climate control module registered a fault previously in the damper motor, but the fault is now no longer present. The fault may have been caused by contact resistance or oxidation in the terminals.
The fault may also have been caused by an intermittent open-circuit in the signal cable to the + or - air distribution damper motor.

- To access the temperature damper motor, see Temperature damper motor Temperature.

Checking components and wiring
Applies to left-hand drive cars only
Check the cable between climate control module terminal #A13 and damper motor terminal #2. Check the cable between climate control module terminal #A12 and damper motor terminal #6. Check for an open-circuit.
Applies to right-hand drive cars only
Check the cable between climate control module terminal #A13 and damper motor terminal #6. Check the cable between climate control module terminal #A12 and damper motor terminal #2. Check for an open-circuit.
If the cables are OK, try a new damper motor.
Remedy as necessary.

Continue - Self-adjustment of the shutter motor end position
-------------------------------------------------
Self-adjustment of the shutter motor end position
Self-adjustment of damper motor end positions
Self-adjustment of damper motor end positions. Electronic climate control (ECC), Manual climate control (MCC), Standard (STD)
Note! Self-adjustment must be carried out if the control module or damper motor is replaced or the damper motor or its linkage has been removed. The indication LED on the climate control module panel will flash during adjustment.
Hint: During self-adjustment the control module runs the damper motors to their limit positions. The control module then stores the value returned from the position sensor for the damper motor. The control module is then able to operate the motor betweenthe limit positions during normal operation.
- Start the engine (the generator charges)
- Activate self-adjustment. The self-adjustment takes thirty seconds.
Note! Self-adjustment can only be carried out once in the same ignition cycle. To run the self-adjustment again, switch off the ignition, wait 10 seconds and start the engine again.
The indication LED stops flashing when the self-adjustment is complete.

The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
