Upper panel in shift lever assembly (without geartronic), replacement

Removal

Removing the shift lever knob 1





Turn the lock sleeve under the gaiter 1/4 turn. Push the lock sleeve downward from the knob. The lock sleeve remains in the gaiter.

Hold the shift lever knob with both hands. Pull it straight up, fast and hard.

Note!
It can be very difficult to loosen the knob, and it might let go very suddenly. Do not hold your head above the shift lever.

Turn the screw 1/4 turn.





Carefully fold the panel out by the screw. Pull the panel backwards (arrow) until it comes off.

Grab the gaiter and pull it straight up to release the cover panel.

Remove the ash tray in the back end of the tunnel console.

Remove the ash tray holder (push the two catches).

Remove the holder. Disconnect and separate the connector from the holder.

Press the four catches. Remove the cover panel from the upper panel of the shift lever gaiter.

Raise the storage box lid.

Press the catch with a screwdriver.

Raise the cover panel upward/forward.

Pulling the front end of the console upward 7





Remove the CD rack from the storage box.

Remove the four screws for the console.

Pull the front end upward from the mounts.

Preparation for tunnel console removal 8





Move the shift lever forward.

Apply parking brake. If necessary, release the adjustment by loosening the adjustment screw 5-10 turns.

Lift up the rear end of the tunnel console.

Carefully move it forward beyond the parking brake lever.

Lift off the console.

Note!
Be careful when removing the console so it does not scratch the lever knob.

Separate the connectors on the shift lever carrier.

Cut off the cable ties that attach the electrical wiring to the gear lever carrier.

Remove the upper panel with gaiter and connectors. Release the wiring.

Push out the 4 lock rings from the upper panel. Remove gaiter. The gaiter should be transferred to the new upper panel.
