Starter Motor: Service and Repair






Starter motor

Preparation




- Make a note of the radio code.
- Remove styling cover.
- Disconnect battery negative lead.
- Remove dip stick.
- Remove top screw from dip stick holder.

Removing hose to charge air cooler




- Remove splash guard.
- Slacken off hose clamps.
- Remove hose.

Removing dip stick and support




- Remove dip stick and O-ring (B).
- Clean carefully.

Note! Plug the hole.

- Remove screws (C) and (D) from support under intake manifold.

Removing starter motor





Remove:
- protective cover (A).
- positive cable and connector from starter motor.
- two bolts (B).
- starter motor with a twisting movement.

Installing starter motor




- Clean surfaces.
- Check locating bush and its position (transfer if necessary).
- Position the starter motor and hand tighten the two bolts.
- Tighten the two bolts (B) to 50 Nm.
- Connect the connector.
- Install the positive lead and tighten the nut to 13 Nm.
- Install the protective cover (A).

Installing intake manifold and dip stick pipe




- Install support, first tighten screw (A), then (B).
Tightening torques: 20 Nm.
- Install a new O-ring (C) and place dip stick pipe to intake manifold (D).
The plug must be removed before the dip stick pipe is re-installed.

Installing hose to charge air cooler




- Install hose.
- Tigthen hose clamps to 6 Nm.

Tighten dip stick pipe
- Place bolt and tighten.
- Place dip stick.

Finishing job




- Turn the ignition to position II.
- Install the battery negative lead.
- Enter the radio code.
- Check function.
- Place styling cover.
