Checking the clutch valve

- Ignition off.
- Clutch valve disconnected.
- Selector switch in the OFF position.
Connect an ohmmeter between the terminal pins on the clutch valve.

The ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohms when the brake pedal is unaffected. The ohmmeter should read infinite resistance when the pedal is depressed more than 8 mm.

OK - Adjusting the clutch valve

Not OK - Checking the power supply for the control module

------------------------

Adjusting the clutch valve

- Ignition off.
- Clutch valve disconnected.
- Depress the pedal so that it is not in contact with the valve.
- Pull out the piston as far as possible. Slowly release the pedal.
Connect an ohmmeter between the terminal pins on the clutch valve.

The ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohms when the brake pedal is unaffected. The ohmmeter should read infinite resistance when the pedal is depressed more than 8 mm.

OK - Checking the power supply for the control module

Not OK - Replacing the component

------------------------

Replacing the component

- Ignition off.

- Replace the clutch valve according to Clutch pedal vacuum valve, replacement Service and Repair.

Select "Continue" when the fault has been remedied.

Checking the power supply for the control module

- Ignition off.
- Disconnect the control module.
- Connect the brake valve.
- Connect the clutch valve (manual transmissions).
- Ignition on.
- Pedals unaffected.
Connect a voltmeter between control module connector terminal #3 and ground.
The voltmeter should read approximately 0 V when the selector switch is in the OFF position. The voltmeter should read battery voltage when the selector switch is in the ON position.
- 1. The value is OK.
- 2. The voltage is constantly 0 V.
- 3. The voltage is constantly 12 V.

Select one of the above options.

1 - Checking the control module connectors

2 - Checking the cable between the brake valve / clutch valve and the control module

3 - Checking for a short-circuit

------------------------

Checking for a short-circuit

- Ignition off.
Check the cable between brake valve connector terminal 2 and control module connector terminal 3 for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Cars with manual transmissions: Check the cable between clutch valve connector terminal #2 and control module terminal #3 for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Select "Continue" when the fault has been remedied.

Checking the cable between the brake valve / clutch valve and the control module

- Ignition off.
- Control module disconnected.
- Disconnect the brake valve.
- Clutch valve connected (manual transmissions).
Connect an ohmmeter between control module connector terminal #3 and brake valve connector terminal #2. Cars with manual transmissions: the ohmmeter must be connected to clutch valve terminal #2.

The ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohms.

OK - Checking the control module connectors

Not OK - Checking for an open-circuit

------------------------

Checking for an open-circuit

- Ignition off.

- Check the cable between brake valve connector terminal #2 and control module terminal #3 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.
Cars with manual transmissions: check the cable between control module terminal #3 and clutch valve terminal #2 for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Select "Continue" when the fault has been remedied.

Checking the control module connectors

- Ignition off.
- Check control module connector terminal #3 for loose connections and for contact resistance. Remedy loose connections according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring And Terminals. Intermittent Faults. Remedy contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.
- Connect the brake valve / clutch valve.
- Connect the control module.
- Connect the Volvo Scan Tool (ST) to the data link connector (DLC).
- Ignition on.

- Activate the Scan Tool (ST) in MODE 2.
- Move the switch from ON to OFF or from OFF to ON.
- Check whether response code 1-1-3 is returned.

Is response code 1-1-3 returned?

Yes - Fault-tracing information

No - Replacing the component
