Installing the Dashboard




Installing The Dashboard







NOTE:
- Before installation: Check that all components are correctly installed.
- Two people are required for this operation.

- Check the rubber mounting in the center of the bodywork.
- Route the wiring to the correct locations.
- Route the cable to "airmix".
- Align the dashboard carefully.

Install:
- the upper screw by hand.
- the screw for the passenger air bag module in the glove compartment.
- the remaining screws.

- Check the positioning of the dashboard.
- Tighten the screw. Tighten to 12 Nm.

Installing the plug and the glove compartment panel







- Install the plug on the right-hand side.
- Hook the glove compartment panel into place. Install two screws.

Installing the loudspeaker and loudspeaker grille on the passenger side







Install:
- the connector in the loudspeaker.
- the loudspeaker in the dashboard.

NOTE: See the illustration for the location.

- Install the rear edge of the loudspeaker grille and press the front edge into position.

NOTE: Start on the right-hand side.

Securing the dashboard (right-hand side)







Install:
- the dashboard against the rear mounting (align the plug on older models).
- the two screws on the front.

Installing the wiring (driver's side)

NOTE: Applies to model year 2000- cars. Install the central electronic module (CEM) before connecting the wiring to the fusebox.

- Connect the wiring to the fusebox.

Hint: The color of the cable connector must correspond to the color on the fusebox.

Installing the central electronic module (CEM)







- Install the central electronic module (CEM).
- Install two screws.

Installing the dashboard bracket and the hood catch







Install:
- the bracket and install the upper screw by hand.
- the hood catch and two screws.
- the screw for the dashboard in the bracket.

- Tighten the screws and nuts for the console. Tighten to 10 Nm.
- Tighten the dashboard screw (A). Tighten to 12 Nm.
- Install the plug.

Installing the (lower) panel on the A-post

- Install the panel and hook it into place.
- Install the blind cover plug.

Installing the loudspeaker and loudspeaker grille on the driver's side







Install:
- the connector in the loudspeaker.
- the loudspeaker in the dashboard.

NOTE: See the illustration for the location.

Cars with ECC:

- Install the sun sensor.

- Install the rear edge of the loudspeaker grille and press the front edge into position.

Installing the cable for the odometer on the dashboard (mechanical speedometer)







- Insert the cable and the plastic bracket through the dashboard console.
- Press the cable into place so that the clip secures the plastic bracket.

Installing connectors and cables in the dashboard







Install:
- the right connector (gray).
- the two clips on the bracket.

- Secure the cable using a tie strap.

Installing the fog lamp relay







NOTE: Only applies to model year -1999 cars

- Connect the connector. Install the relay.
- Install the screw.

Installing the VGLA relay (unit)







NOTE: Only applies to model year 2000- cars.

- Connect the connector. Install the relay.
- Install the screw.

Installing the combined instrument panel







- Position the combined instrument panel.
- Check that the connectors and the speedometer cable (if applicable) are correct for the combined instrument panel.
- Press the combined instrument panel into place.

Install:
- the surround around the combined instrument panel.
- the two screws (B) without sharp tips.

- Lift up the steering shaft.
- Install the two screws (A). Tighten to 21 Nm.

Installing and adjusting the "airmix" control cable







- Position the inner cable over the pin for the valve.
- Set the selector to "cold"
- Slide the air valve to "cold" (lever down). Pull back the outer cable and press it into the clamp.
- Check the function.

Connecting the SRS passenger air bag module







- Route the cable and connect the connector to the passenger air bag module.

Installing front center console







Install:
- the center console.
- the two screws at the rear edge.
- the bulbs.
- the panel for the gear selector lever.

Installing the rear center console

Install:
- the bracket.
- the two screws on the reverse.
- the seal and the screw at the front.
- the waste paper basket or drinks holder.

Installing the ECC unit







NOTE: Cars with ECC only.

- Install the unit. Connect the hose.
- Connect the connector.

Positioning the control panel for the heater system







NOTE: Applies only to cars with ECC.

- Position the control panel.
- Install two screws at the top edge.

Installing the dashboard center console







- Route the wiring. Connect the connector.
- Install the console.
- Install the two upper screws.
- Tighten the control panel for the heating system.
- Install the lower screw.

Installing the control panel for the heater system

Cars with ECC:

- Install the front panel. Press it into place.

Cars with MCC:

- Install the front panel.
- Press the selector knobs into position.

Installing the ashtray







Install:
- the connectors for the cigarette lighter and lighting.
- the bracket.
- the two screws (A).
- the ashtray.

Installing the radio and storage compartment







Install:
- the storage compartment if applicable.
- the connector and the antenna switch.
- the radio.

- Pull the radio to ensure that it is secure.

Installing the side panel on the center console

- Install the panels on both sides of the center console.

Installing the panel on the dashboard on the driver's side







Install:
- the wiring for the courtesy lighting.
- the panel. Tighten.
- the blind cover plug.

Installing the panel on the dashboard on the driver's side (2000-)

- Install the panel at the lower edge of the guide rail.
- Press the panel into place using the clips.
- Check that the clips are secure.

Final check







NOTE: When all components have been reinstalled and secured, proceed as follows:

- First switch on the ignition.
- Connect the battery negative terminal
- Check that the SRS warning light on the dashboard goes out.

WARNING: Ensure that nobody is in the car when the battery is being connected.

- Enter the radio code.
- Set the clock.
