Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Information

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information

IMM-234 Transponder communication

Condition

Note! Connecting the breakout box can cause diagnostic trouble code (DTC) IMM-234 to be stored. The breakout box wiring affects the signal from the transponder.

With the ignition on the immobilizer control module reads the transponder signal. Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) IMM-234 is stored two seconds after the ignition is switched on if the immobilizer control module does not receive a response from the transponder. Faults which cause diagnostic trouble code (DTC) IMM-234 can also cause diagnostic trouble code (DTC) IMM-225 to be stored.

Possible source
- The ignition key has a defective transponder.
- The ignition key is of the wrong type. It has no transponder.
- The ignition key is a new. It has not been programmed with a security code.
- The ignition key is not a Volvo key or is a Volvo key intended for the generation 2 immobilizer.
- Several transponders (programmed or unprogrammed) have been activated in different keys when the transponder signal is being read.
- There is a short-circuit to supply voltage in the cable between control module #10 and antenna ring #2.
- EMC interference (strong electrical field) during the communication phase (when starting the engine).

Fault symptom[s]
- The indicator lamp in the combined instrument panel flashes.
- The engine does not start. (The starter motor does not operate)
