Checking the function of the water pump

Note! On cars where the heater functions as a parking heater there is no +15 voltage supply to the control module. Individual components and functions cannot be activated when the +15 voltage supply is absent.

- Ignition on
- Activate the water pump.
Listen for a buzzing sound which indicates that the water pump is running.

Does the water pump function?

Yes - Intermittent fault

No - Checking components and wiring

Checking components and wiring

Note! On cars where the heater functions as a parking heater there is no +15 voltage supply to the control module. Individual components and functions cannot be activated when the +15 voltage supply is absent.

Check the cable between control module terminal #12 and water pump terminal 1 for a short-circuit. Check to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.
The water pump must be replaced if no faults are found in the cable.
Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To access the control module or connect the breakout box, see
- To access or replace the water pump, see Replacing the water pump Replacing Water Pump
- With ignition on and the water pump connector disconnected, the voltage between the water pump terminal 1 (engine control module (ECM) side) and ground must be approximately 0 V
- For other values, see Signal specification Additional heater 912-D/B Signal Specification Additional Heater 912-D/B.
