Slipping Or Not Engaged

Slipping or not engaged

Checking transmission control module (TCM)
Check that the transmission control module (TCM) has the correct P/N. Compare the transmission control module (TCM) P/N with the engine and transmission specifications. Engine - transmission - control modules Application and ID.

- Select the VCT 2000 symbol to read the control unit id.

Is the transmission control module (TCM) P/N correct?

Checking the ground terminal

- Ignition off.
- Control module disconnected.
- Switch off all power consuming equipment, such as courtesy lighting, radio etc.
Connect an ohmmeter between terminal 1 on the breakout box and the battery negative terminal.

The ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohms.

OK - Return to the fault-tracing procedure where it was interrupted.
No Fault Found

Not OK - Checking for an open-circuit, contact resistance and oxidation

Verification

Hint: After repairs have been completed they must be verified as follows to ensure that the fault has been eliminated:

- Ignition off
- Switch off all power consuming equipment, such as courtesy lighting, radio etc.
- Control module disconnected
Connect an ohmmeter between #1 on the breakout box and the battery negative terminal.

The ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohms.

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should be diagnosed and remedied. Since this is not the case the fault-tracing process has failed.
Complete the fault-tracing for those fault or try again.

Do you want to terminate fault-tracing at this time?

Yes - Exit fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test

- Ignition off.
- Control module disconnected.
Connect an ohmmeter between #2 and #1 on the breakout box.

The ohmmeter should read approximately 12-16 ohms.

OK - Test drive

Not OK - Checking for contact resistance and oxidation

-------------------------------------------------

Checking for contact resistance and oxidation
Check the 6-pin transmission connector and transmission control module (TCM) connector for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Continue - Test drive

-------------------------------------------------

Test drive

- Ignition off.
- Reconnect connectors, reinstall components.
- Connect control module.
- As VCT 2000 cannot be used as a hand held test tool, use the Volvo System Tester during test-driving in order to see the various values and functions. To connect the Volvo System Tester see Connecting the Volvo Scan Tool (ST) Connecting The Volvo Scan Tool (St).
- Read off diagnostic trouble code (DTC) counter and make a note of the value.
- To test-drive the car, see Test Drive Form, description Test Drive Form, Description.

Hint: See Mechanical Lock-up Mechanical Lock-Up for the driving conditions required to engage and disengage lock-up. The transmission should be at normal operating temperature when test driving because lock-up engagement is dependant on the oil temperature in the transmission.

Note! Do not switch off ignition.

- Read off diagnostic trouble code (DTC) counter without switching off the ignition.

Is counter value greater than 0?

Yes - FAULT FOUND

No - Checking mechanical faults

-------------------------------------------------
