Condition

The oil temperature sensor sends a signal to the control module which is used for functions such as temperature controlled lock-up and the engagement of high-temperature programs. The sensor has a temperature sensitive NTC (negative temperature coefficient) resistor. The signal (voltage) decreases with increasing oil temperature. Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) TCM- 235 is stored if the transmission control module (TCM) receives a signal from the oil temperature sensor corresponding to an oil temperature above approximately +140°C for approximately 5 seconds.

Substitute value
None.

Possible source
- Short-circuit to ground in the signal cable.
- Defective oil temperature sensor.
- Mechanical fault in the transmission.
- The transmission has been exposed to extreme load and high ambient temperature.

Fault symptom[s]
- The warning lamp flashes when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored and stops flashing when the transmission control module (TCM) receives a signal that oil temperature has fallen below approximately +135° C.

Caution! Always change the oil if you suspect that the transmission oil temperature has exceeded approximately +135° C.
