Condition

The oil temperature sensor transmits a signal to the control module. This signal is used for functions such as temperature controlled lock-up and the engagement of high-temperature programs. The sensor has a temperature sensitive NTC (negative temperature coefficient) resistor. The signal (voltage) decreases with increasing oil temperature. Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) AT- 142 is stored if the control module receives a signal from the oil temperature sensor corresponding to a temperature below approximately - 10°C when the engine is started, and the signal has not changed after the engine has been running for approximately 10 minutes.

Substitute value
No substitute values.

Possible source
- Open-circuit in the signal cable or in the ground lead.
- Short-circuit to supply voltage in the signal cable.
- Defective oil temperature sensor.
- Contact resistance in the terminals.

Fault symptom[s]
- No fault symptoms.
