Status message

Note! The following is required to obtain the correct status message before the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be read:

- Ignition on.
- Wait approximately 30 seconds.

- Read off the status of the diagnostic trouble code (DTC).

Is the status permanent?

Yes - Checking oil temperature sensor signal cable

No - Intermittent fault

-------------------------------------------------

Checking oil temperature sensor signal cable

- Ignition off.
- Disconnect gray 2-pin transmission connector. For further information about connectors, see Transmission connectors Transmission Connectors.
Connect an ohmmeter between the gray 2-pin transmission connector terminal 2 (transmission side) and transmission housing.

Does the ohmmeter read infinite resistance?

OK - Checking oil temperature sensor resistance

Not OK - Checking for a short-circuit

-------------------------------------------------

Checking for a short-circuit
Check cable between oil temperature sensor and gray 2-pin transmission connector terminal 2 for a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Was a fault detected?

Yes - Verification

No - Replacing component

Checking oil temperature sensor resistance

- Ignition off.
- Gray 2-pin transmission connector disconnected.
Connect an ohmmeter between the gray 2-pin transmission connector terminals 1 and 2 (transmission side).
Compare the temperature below with the transmission temperature at the oil temperature sensor.

Does the ohmmeter show correct value? (See table)

Yes - Checking for a short-circuit

No - Replacing component

-------------------------------------------------

Checking for a short-circuit
Check cable between gray 2-pin transmission connector:
- terminal 2 and control module #34 (Fenix 5.1)
- terminal 2 and control module #33 (EMS 2000)
for a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring And Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Continue - Verification

-------------------------------------------------

Replacing component
Try a new oil temperature sensor according to Replacing oil temperature sensor Service and Repair.

Verification

Hint: After repairs have been completed they must be verified as follows to ensure that the fault has been eliminated:

- Ignition off.
- Reconnect the connectors, reinstall components etc.
- Ignition on.

- Wait approximately 30 seconds.
- Read off the status of the diagnostic trouble code (DTC).

Is the status intermittent?

Fault-tracing information

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test

Intermittent fault

Signal too low. Intermittent fault

Intermittent fault
Check the cable between the oil temperature sensor and the control module:
- terminal 34 (Fenix 5.1)
- terminal 33 (EMS 2000)
for an intermittent short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring And Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
