Measurement Tools
General
To facilitate fault-tracing there is a test box 981 3190 and two different adapters, 951 1351 and 951 1355. Adapter 1351 is used for fault-tracing the Motronic 4.4 system and 1355 for the AW30-40/AW30-43 transmission control system.
Test Box
Test box 981 3190 consists of a case with 60 measurement terminals and a cable with a connector.
The measurement terminals are numbered from 1 to 60 as illustrated.
Motronic 4.4 Engine Management System
To connect the measuring box to the Motronic 4.4 engine control module (ECM) with 43 + 43-pin connectors (A+B):
- Use two test boxes (A and B) with adapter 951 1351.
- The adapter is fitted with two connectors marked A and B.
- Connector A (engine side) uses measurement terminals 1 - 43 on the test box A which correspond to # A1 - # A43 on the control module.
- Connector B (car side) uses measurement terminals 1- 43 on the test box B which correspond to # B1 - # B43 on the control module.
Using the Test Box
Measurement with Control Module in Circuit (circuit in operation)
- The test box is connected between the control module and the connector in the control module box. This allows voltage readings to be taken with the engine running.
Measurement with Control Module Disconnected (split circuit)
- The text box may be connected either to the control module connector or to the connector on the control module box, enabling resistance measurements to be made without interference from other systems.
