Connecting the Test Box
- Is the test box connected to the control module?
Yes:
- Proceed to: Checking Ground Terminals section below.
No:
- Proceed to: Connecting the Test Box section below.
Connecting the Test Box
CAUTION: The control module power supply must be disconnected when connecting or disconnecting the test box, otherwise it may be damaged.
- Ignition OFF.
- Expose and disconnect the AW30-40/AW30-43 transmission control module (TCM).
- Connect adapter 951 1355 to control module connector and connect test box 981 3190 to adapter.
NOTE: Ensure that the adapter is the right way round.
- Proceed to: Checking Ground Terminals section below.
Checking Ground Terminals
- Ignition OFF.
- Transmission control module disconnected.
- Turn of all equipment in the car that takes power from the battery (the interior lighting and radio etc).
- Connect an ohmmeter between the battery negative terminal and:
- # 1 on the test box.
- # 15 on the test box.
- The ohmmeter should read approx. 0 Ohms for all readings.
If reading is OK:
- Fault not found.
If reading is incorrect:
- Proceed to: Checking for an Open-circuit, Contact Resistance and Oxidation section below.
Checking for an Open-circuit, Contact Resistance and Oxidation
- Check ground terminals 31/36 and 31/53 and cables between ground terminals and transmission control module # A20 and # A15 for an open-circuit and contact resistance and oxidation.
- Check ground lead between battery and bodywork for an open-circuit and contact resistance and oxidation.
- Proceed to: Verification section below.
Verification
After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied as follows:
- Ignition OFF.
- Turn of all equipment in the car that takes power from the battery (the interior lighting and radio etc).
- Transmission control module disconnected.
- Connect an ohmmeter between the battery negative terminal and:
- # 1 on the test box.
- # 15 on the test box.
- The ohmmeter should read approx. 0 Ohms for all readings.
If reading is OK:
- Fault corrected.
If reading is incorrect:
- Proceed to: Fault-tracing Information section below.
Fault-tracing Information
The fault should now have been diagnosed and corrected. Since this is not the case the fault-tracing has failed.
- Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
Yes:
- Fault not corrected.
No:
- Proceed to: Checking Ground Terminals section above.
