Mode Selector

A driving mode selector (3), which allows a choice of three different driving programs or modes, is located beside the gear selector lever.
Any of the following three modes may be selected depending on the driver's requirements in the prevailing driving conditions:

E (Economy). The TCM selects the gear shifting and lock-up engagement points which provide optimum fuel economy combined with maximum gear shifting comfort.

S (Sport). The TCM selects the gear shifting and lock-up engagement points which afford optimum performance.

W (Winter). The program locks the selected gear and permits manual gear shifting. In this mode, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) in the combined instrument panel is lit. Note that in the D position the transmission always starts in third gear and then shifts to fourth gear. Lock-up is engaged in fourth gear.

The transmission locks the gears as follows:
- D - starts in third, shifts to fourth. Lock-up active.
- 3 - starts in second and shifts up to third. Lock-up is active in third gear.
- L - the transmission is locked in first with no lock-up.
