Signal Missing. Permanent Fault

Safety
- See Safety instructions for handling fuel.
- Proceed to: Checking Power Cable section below.

Checking Power Cable
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect connector from EVAP canister shut-off valve.
- Ignition ON.
- The voltmeter should read battery voltage.

If reading is OK:
^ Proceed to: Checking EVAP Canister Shut-off Valve section below.

If reading is incorrect:
^ Proceed to: Checking For An Open-circuit section below.

Checking For An Open-circuit
- Check power cable between EVAP canister shut-off valve terminal 1 and main relay (2/32) for an open-circuit.
- Proceed to: Verification section below.

Checking EVAP Canister Shut-off Valve
- Ignition OFF.
- Connect an ohmmeter between EVAP canister shut-off valve terminals 1 and 2.
- The ohmmeter should read 14-20 ohms.

If reading is OK:
^ Proceed to: Checking The Signal Cable section below.

If reading is incorrect:
^ Proceed to: Replacing Component section below.

Checking The Signal Cable
- Ignition OFF.
- Connect breakout box and check ground terminals. Connect an ohmmeter between terminal # 19 (B19) on the breakout box and EVAP canister shut-off valve connector terminal 2.
- The ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohms.

If reading is OK:
^ Proceed to: Fault-tracing Information section below.

If reading is incorrect:
^ Proceed to: Checking For An Open-circuit section below.

Checking For An Open-circuit
- Check cable between EVAP canister shut-off valve terminal 2 and engine control module (ECM) # B19 for an open-circuit.
- Proceed to: Verification section below.

Fault-tracing Information
- The cause of fault has been poor contact in the engine control module and/or the EVAP canister shut-off valve connectors.
- Check connectors for contact resistance and oxidation and remedy.
- Proceed to: Verification section below.

Replacing Component
- Try a new EVAP canister shut-off valve.
- Proceed to: Verification section below.

Verification
After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied as follows:

- Ignition OFF.
- EVAP canister shut-off valve and engine control module connected.
- Ignition ON.
- Select Volvo Scan Tool (ST) to activate EVAP canister shut-off valve.
- The EVAP canister shut-off valve "clicks" when it is activated.
- Is the EVAP canister shut-off valve working?

If reading is OK:
^ Fault corrected.

If reading is incorrect:
^ Fault not found.
