Signal Too High. Permanent Fault
Checking The Signal Cable
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect connector from canister purge (CP) valve.
- Ignition ON.
- Connect an electrician's screwdriver (3 W bulb at least) between canister purge valve connector terminal 2 and ground.
- The electrician's screwdriver should not light.
If reading is OK:
^ Try a new canister purge valve.
^ Proceed to: Verification section below.
If reading is incorrect:
^ Check signal cable between canister purge valve connector terminal 2 and engine control module (ECM) # A39 for a short-circuit to supply voltage.

Verification
After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied as follows:
- Ignition OFF.
- Canister purge valve and control module connected.
- Ignition ON.
- Activate canister purge valve.
- A "clicking sound" can be heard from the canister purge valve when it is activated.
- Is the canister purge valve working?
If reading is OK:
^ Fault corrected.
If reading is incorrect:
^ Proceed to: Fault-tracing Information section below.
Fault-tracing Information
The verification result shows that the fault persists.
- Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
Yes:
^ Fault not corrected.
No:
^ Proceed to: Checking The Signal Cable section above.
