Trouble Code Conditions

4-4-6 PULSE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM PUMP FLOW FAULT

Trouble Code Condition(s)
- The pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) valve is checked by disabling the long-term fuel trim and canister purge (CP) valve control. The pulsed secondary air injection system pump is started and the pulsed secondary air injection system valve is kept closed, if the short-term fuel trim integrator rises above a set value within 6 seconds diagnostic trouble code (DTC) EFI-446 is stored.

Substitute value(s)
- Fuel trim disabled.

Possible source(s)
If EFI-442 Pulsed secondary air injection system, flow fault and EFI-446 Pulsed secondary air injection system valve, leakage occur together:

- Leaking pulsed secondary air injection system valve.
- Defective pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) solenoid valve.
- Air leakage in the exhaust system.

If EFI-448 Pulsed secondary air injection system pump, flow fault is also stored together with the above diagnostic trouble codes the following apply:

- Pulsed secondary air injection system pump runs continuously.
- Air leakage in the exhaust system.
- Air leakage in the intake system.
- Damage/hole in the hose between pulsed secondary air injection system pump and pulsed secondary air injection system valve.

Fault symptom(s)
- A muffled sucking sound can be heard from the engine compartment when the engine is idling.
